A.You can also use a few programs that can help instead of Googling all of them:

Autoruns (very powerful. It will kill a progrma in start so make sure that is what you want before doing it)
http://filehippo.com/download_autoruns/

Startup Delayer
Can significantly speed startup be delaying program loading and setting order of startup.

System Explorer
Detailed what does this program do in startup...I have heard good things about this, but never used it.
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,69917-order,4/description.html

All three are free and for XP.

A.Hi Camelot~

I agree with FN on a Google hunt..This is a very handy utility to have..

http://www.revouninstaller.com/

In addition to being an excellent un-installer, it has other useful tools..The Auto Run Manager is one..

http://www.revouninstaller.com/auto_run_manager_startup_manager.html

You can right-click an entry and Google-it..You can then decide to enable/disable in the same window..

Bob...

A.I Google each one -- a pain yes -- but you want to know which one is running. Big offenders -- printer drivers that install ink jet cartridge store ads. Update programs, like Adobe. Kill them. But if they reappear, you must look for an uncheck box on check for updates or reinstall and uncheck the check for updates option.

Quicktime and Real Player too like to load themselves for no good reason.

A.Everything except AV and firewall. If you find a program later that you wish was on, recheck it. I have 4 checked.
