Q. I have a Dell 964 printer. I have been using Dell cartridges since the beginning. Now I am tempted to try the refill option at "Cartridge World" for half price at their local store. I spoke with the owner who assures me that the ink they use is not generic like Walgreen's but is in fact specific to Dell's ink properties. I asked if my printer would recognize the refilled cartridge as a new cartridge and he said that would not be automatic as I am currently accustomed to. However, he said that I could go into the printer's properties and tell the printer it is a new one. When I go into the printer's properties, I only see how to install a new Dell cartridge. Can anyone help? As always, I appreciate the help.

A.Ifr you have an Epson printer, there is a caveot to refilling or buying another brand of cartridge. Epson printers use micro piezoelectric "flippers" to send the ink to the paper. If theink is less than Epsons quality, it will dry on the flippers and eventually jam them.

A.I tried using Walgreen's refill service, it was a disaster. Refills for color never worked, the black was worse. I'm thinking seriously of junking my HP and getting the Kodak printer, especially that their ink is about 50% cheaper than HP.
HP probably has figured out a way with sensors to refuse reusing HP carts. after they have been refilled.

A.I've had 4 Epsons and have used cartridge world refills in all of them and they have worked fine. Once in awhile, it won't recognize the cartridge and if I can't get it to work, I take it back and they give me another one, no charge.. I've used them in HP also and they work fine...

A.I don't use 3rd party cartidges, however, here is a link to the Dell 964 ink cartidges from Office Depot, black or color. Office Depot Sunday ad inserts always claim "Always in Stock, 100% Quality Assured." You may want to campare prices with Cartdidge World. Withg OD, if the cartridge doesn't work, you can always take it back for a refund.

A.Here is just one recommendation, from many of the users here. If you search this Board you will find MANY responses.

My previous printer (now have a Dell P703w made by Kodak) was a Dell 964 and it always worked great, EXCEPT when I decided to try the "refill option" that you described. Although the price was almost half the price for the Dell cartiridges, they FAILED after a few attempts!

My general recommendation is NOT to use any of the generic print cartridges. If you do a lot of printing try a Laser Printer (now around $100 for B/W basic one) or one of Kodak's printer, as they seem to give you more ink for the price.
