Store Files On The Web F-Secure Online Backup | ||

F-Secure (888) 432-8233 www.f-secure.com Also from F-Secure comes Online Backup, a service great for those who want to archive files in an ultra-secure location. Installation of F-Secure Online Backup takes about 10 seconds, and setup is wizard-driven after installation. You can choose your backup name and file set (or let F-Secure handle that for you) and tweak such aspects as preferred data transfer speed. By default, F-Secure runs after setup and begins backing up your files continuously, as they change. In automated mode, it backs up all Microsoft Office, picture and video, email, and "important" files (such as My Documents, Favorites, etc.) it finds on your local hard drives. Music files are an option but are not selected by default. This establishes a pretty wide net that will catch a lot of unimportant graphics and documents, so you might want to make some tweaks. Fortunately, F-Secure lets you do that easily. Restoring files is just as straightforward, and you can also access (and even play, in the case of music files) your archives remotely by logging in to backupusa.ob.f-secure.com. File transfer is quite slow, even when F-Secure is set to use extra resources and an unlimited transfer rate (our PC’s was 300Kbps [kilobits per second]). However, it runs in the background with little system impact, so you can leave it working and move on. by Jennifer Farwell
