Epson PowerLite 7500C

Every presenter dreams of an ultraportable projector. With the Epson PowerLite 7500C, those dreams can come true. This projector measures only 9.3 inches wide, 13.6 inches long, and a slim 3.7 inches tall, which means you can slide it under the seat on the plane or slip it into the same case as your notebook. It also weighs only 9.4 pounds, ships with its own nylon carrying case, and has a detachable handle.

The projector provides superior images, a quick focus, and sharp text and colors. The extended graphic array (XGA) projector features 800 American National Standards Institute (ANSI) lumens (a measurement of how fast light emits from the source). It also sports Epson's Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology, which uses three liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) to increase light throughput, and it has a projection distance range of 3 feet to 50 feet.

Epson includes SizeWise technology with the PowerLite, making it compatible with various resolutions without losing picture quality. The projector has a manual zoom lens and there is little distortion when increasing or decreasing the picture size. An infrared remote ships with the PowerLite, offering wireless control from within a large presentation area. The remote takes some time to get used to and is rather jumpy, but it offers controls for adjusting volume, muting, and changing color brightness and contrast. There also is a control panel on the top of the projector for accessing the volume and menu controls.

We tested the PowerLite 7500C with Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, general Microsoft Word 97 documents, and various audio clips. The PowerLite delivered excellent image quality in low and natural lighting conditions and small fonts were easy to recognize. The incorporated SRS 3D audio system emitted a tinny sound, but it would be adequate in a small- to medium-sized conference room. The projector also has input/output jacks for hooking up additional speakers.

With its compact design and solid images, the Epson PowerLite 7500C is a great investment for any professional giving presentations on the road. Although the $9,999 price sounds hefty, it's well worth it.
