How To Get Rid Of Happy99 | ||

Also called W32/Ska, I-Worm, Spanska, and FDoS-Misoska, this virus modifies a Windows file (Wsock32.dll) and introduces files of its own. When you send email and newsgroup messages, Happy99 creates a second message to each recipient and mails an attached copy of itself. If recipients open the attachment, the worm treats them to a graphical fireworks display. Happy99 doesn't do much else in its standard configuration but can be altered to include destructive payloads. If your hard drive contains a file named Ska.exe or Ska.dll, your computer is infected. As with most viruses, the easiest way to get rid of Happy99 is using a good antivirus program. Using McAfee VirusScan, for example, double-click the McAfee Security Center icon in your System Tray. Click VirusScan, then click Scan My Computer For Viruses. Make sure the Scan Subfolders, Scan All Files, and Scan For New Unknown Viruses checkboxes are selected, then click Scan. When the scan is complete, if the List Of Detected Files indicates that the virus is present, use the Delete option to get rid of it. You will also need to restart your computer, access Windows' Advanced Options Menu by pressing F8 before Windows launches, and select Safe Mode With Command Prompt. At the C> prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each: cd:\windows\system attrib –r wsock32.dll attrib –r wsock32.ska ren wsock32.dll wsock32.bad ren wsock32.ska wsock32.dll |
