How To Get Rid Of Comet Cursor

Description

Comet Cursor (Comet Cursor/Plus; Comet Cursor/Shop; Comet Cursor/Toolbar; Comet Systems) is a program that ties the appearance of your on-screen cursor to the content you access online. In order to accomplish this feat, the software not only monitors your online whereabouts but also shares information about your system with third parties.

Comet Cursor was originally distributed as an ActiveX control. It's also bundled with freeware and shareware—most notably RealPlayer 7—and is available as a free download at www.comet
cursor.com.

How To Tell If Comet Cursor Is Present On Your System

The appearance of the on-screen cursor changes during your online travels. The cursor should revert back to its default appearance whenever the browser is closed. Comet Cursor may cause Internet Explorer to perform sluggishly.

How To Get Rid Of Comet Cursor With Ad-Aware SE

Like BonziBUDDY, Comet Cursor is a standalone program that comes with its own uninstaller utility. That's why we recommend using the manual removal method (below) in your first attempt to remove Comet Cursor from your PC. The alternative is to use an antispyware utility such as Ad-Aware SE.

Open Ad-Aware SE and click its Scan Now button to launch a scan of your system. Ad-Aware will search the contents of your Windows drive for suspicious files and programs. It may target some Comet Cursor components for removal. When the scan is complete, choose the Critical Objects tab to view the list of identified malware components. Select all of the spyware-related items, click the Next button, and click OK to verify your decision to remove the selected objects. Ad-Aware will shift the selected items to a quarantine folder. If it cannot remove an item, it will give you the option of deferring the item's removal to the next time you reboot. Close Ad-Aware when the quarantine is complete.

How To Get Rid Of Comet Cursor Manually

You can uninstall Comet Cursor in the same way that you would uninstall any unwanted application. Open the Add Or Remove Programs (Add/Remove Programs Properties in Windows Me/98) dialog box. Peruse the list of installed programs and select the component that refers to Comet Cursor. Click the corresponding Remove or Add/Remove button and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

If the uninstall is not successful, you should reinstall Comet Cursor and then try uninstalling it again. Reinstalling the software won't harm your system.
