How To Get Rid Of Jeired

Description

Yet another piece of adware, Jeired (also known as CleverIEHooker.Jeired) is a browser hijacker implemented as a browser helper object. Again, your system can become infected only if you're using Internet Explorer and you browse to an infected page.

How To Tell If Jeired Is On Your PC

If your system is infected, you'll see a lot of pop-up advertising, and IE's performance will slow. You might also experience increased system instability. Finally, search your Windows directory, and you'll find a file named jeired.dll.

How To Get Rid Of Jeired

Several anti-spyware programs will detect and remove Jeired, including Spybot S&D, a free anti-spyware program.

1) Download Spybot S&D at www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html.

2) Double-click on the installer to install the program on your hard drive.

3) Double-click on the Spybot S&D icon to open the program. This brings you to the main screen.

4) Click the Check For Problems button. The program begins scanning your hard drive.

5) When the scan is finished, you'll see a list of any problems it found. Put a check in front of CleverIEHooker.Jeired and click Fix Selected Problems.

6) Close Spybot and reboot your system.

WARNING: The following section includes step-by-step information on how to edit the Windows Registry, a large database containing system and program settings that are essential to how the OS (operating system) operates. Follow Registry-editing instructions to the letter and be sure to make a backup of your Registry before you begin. (Registry errors can render your computer inoperable if you don't have a backup.) This procedure differs depending on the OS you use. For more information on backing up and editing the Registry, see these articles: "Protect Yourself" and "Register Here."

Manual Removal

1) Using Regedit, delete (if they exist): "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Classes \ CLSID \ {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25}" and '"KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \Explorer \ Browser Helper Objects \ {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25}".

2) Restart your computer.

3) Delete C:\Windows\jeired.dll.

4) Start IE and reset your Web options by clicking under Tools, Reset Web Options.
