Seattlement
A term of derision for the settlement between Microsoft and the Department of Justice in 2001 after U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson found the software company to be a monopoly. Largely upheld by U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly in 2002, the settlement was derided by critics who felt its impact on the software juggernaut was far less than Jackson’s findings warranted. Microsoft is located in Redmond, Washington, near Seattle.
