Memory - What kind of memory does my system use? How do I know how much I currently have?
Answer:
There are many different types of memory technology. In most cases, your system will only support a specific technology. You should be able to find detailed information in your system documentation or the manufacturer’s Web site, on what type of memory your system uses.

Generally speaking, you should aim for 256MB of RAM if you’re running a WinXP system. To find the amount of RAM on your machine, go to the Start menu, Settings, Control Panel, Systems, and the General Information tab will tell the type and how much memory is installed on your machine. If you plan on gaming, working with graphic art applications, or editing home movies, you’ll want to increase your memory to 512MB or more.
