FAQ:
I lost power during a firmware upgrade and now my system won't run. What happened, and how do I fix it?
Answer:
When the power went out, it stopped the reprogramming process and left the firmware on the chip incomplete. For noncritical system devices, such as a NIC, the system will still boot, and you can possibly restart the update process to reprogram the device's firmware from scratch. But for critical system devices, such as the motherboard's BIOS chip, interrupted firmware updates may leave the system unbootable. If you're stuck in this "black hole" of computing, contact technical support for your device and have a tech walk you through any available recovery steps. Otherwise, you'll need to return the crippled device for service. If that's the case, the manufacturer will probably replace the firmware chip or exchange the device for you.
