How To Fix This ErrorWe Invite You To Browse SmartComputing.com!

Error Message:
"BackTrack Monitor: Fatal Error [8205] Cannot take Snapshot."
Translation:
When a Windows 98 user uses Shut Down to turn off his computer, an error message displays. Clicking OK clears the message and lets Windows close normally, but the error reappears each time he selects Shut Down.
Solution:
This is an application-specific error that can occur when you have certain McAfee products installed on your computer that use the company's BackTrack utility. BackTrack monitors the Windows Registry and records any changes that take place so the system can be returned to a working state if something goes wrong. McAfee includes BackTrack technology on QuickClean, Un-Installer, and many of its older utility suites, and if you see this error message, it means that BackTrack is failing to take a snapshot of your system Registry.

Our advice is to uninstall the program that uses BackTrack so you stop getting the error message. You may have to contact McAfee (www.mcafee.com
) to find out what application is using BackTrack, but if it's a program, such as UnInstaller, you really don't need it, and you can instead rely on Windows' Add/ Remove Programs utility in the Control Panel.

If you have installed McAfee First Aid on your PC, you can disable the BackTrack feature by loading First Aid, opening the Options menu, selecting Settings, and then clicking First Aid. Click the Windows Guardian tab, deselect BackTrack Monitor, and click OK to make the new setting stick. You may see the error message the next time you shut down your computer after doing this, but it shouldn't appear again.

Be aware that if you call McAfee's technical support hotline (www.mcafee.com/support
; click the Talk To A Technician link to see service options), the company charges a fee of $2.95 per minute or a flat rate of $39 per "single incident." If you're using an older product, such as McAfee's QuickClean or First Aid 97 (a program that often generates this error), you're better off either using the free online support or putting that technical support money toward a similar product that offers free technical help for users.
