How To Fix This ErrorWe Invite You To Browse SmartComputing.com!

Error Message:
[iPod displays a folder icon with an exclamation point.]
Translation:
According to Apple, this icon signals that your iPod had trouble communicating with either your computer or with its own internal software.
Solution:
Apple says you should address this problem by installing the iPod software that came with your iPod and installing all of the latest iPod software updates, which are available through the iPod Updater.

If you are trying to connect a fifth-generation iPod or an iPod nano to your computer with a FireWire cable, you will need to use a USB cable instead. The most recent iPods don’t support data transfer through FireWire, only USB.

If you continue to see the folder icon with the exclamation point, you should first charge your iPod fully, then reset it. Finally, restore your iPod. If you still see the folder icon, you’ll need to schedule a support appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar or call Apple’s Technical Support at (800) 275-2273.
