Common Problem:
My computer accesses my floppy drive when I try to open a Corel document or program.
Solution:
According to Corel, you may run into this problem if your PC runs any Corel application. Your virus scanner, Windows Explorer, or the Windows Run history may cause this problem. You can prevent your PC from accessing your floppy drive when you start applications or open documents by cleaning out the information in Windows Explorer and the Windows Run history in your PC’s Registry. You may also need to disable your antivirus software.

WARNING: The following section includes step-by-step information on how to edit the Windows Registry, a large database containing system and program settings that are essential to how the OS (operating system) operates. Follow Registry-editing instructions to the letter and be sure to make a backup of your Registry before you begin. (Registry errors can render your computer inoperable if you don’t have a backup.) This procedure differs depending on the OS you use. For more information on backing up and editing the Registry, see these articles: "Protect Yourself" and "Register Here."

Clean The Windows Run History
Click Start and Run and then type regedit in the Open box. When the Registry Editor appears, open the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder and click through the following folders: \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer. Next, right-click RunMRU, click Rename, and then add a character to the end of the folder name (Corel suggests adding a “1”, so that it reads RunMRU1). Next, perform the same modification to RecentDocs (rename it to RecentDocs1). Finally, close the Registry editor and then try to open the Corel program or document again.

Clean Windows Explorer’s List Of Recently Used Programs
Your Start menu has a list of programs that you frequently open. Once you clear the list, it will repopulate as you open new programs. You don’t need to worry about the programs that will appear in this list later; you simply want to clear the existing list so it can start anew. Right-click the Taskbar and then click Properties. Click the Start Menu tab and then click the Customize button next to Start Menu. When the Customize Start Menu window appears, click the Clear List button in the Programs area. Click OK. Try to open the Corel program or document again.

Disable Your Antivirus Software
Chances are, your antivirus software puts an icon in the System Tray (at the lower-right corner of the screen). Double-click this icon and then browse the program’s settings for a feature that will let you disable the program. Next, try to open your Corel program or document. If the program or document opens, you’ll probably need to reinstall your antivirus software to prevent it from blocking your documents again.
