Common Problem:
WordPerfect X3 won’t uninstall
Solution:
You may run across this problem while trying to remove Corel WordPerfect Office X3 via Windows’ Add/Remove Programs feature. Chances are, you’ll be able to cleanly uninstall the entire suite by selecting WordPerfect Office X3 in the Add/Remove Programs folder’s list and then clicking the Remove button. However, all programs are susceptible to bad uninstalls, in which portions of the program remain on your computer.

According to Corel, you can manually remove any WordPerfect remnants from your system. In some cases, you may want to move folders or files to a different location on your hard drive (rather than deleting them). We’ll point out which files and folders Corel recommends backing up.

Windows Installer Clean Up Utility
Microsoft offers a free utility that can remove some program remnants that Windows Installer (which is the tool that installed WordPerfect Office X3 in the first place) might leave behind. To download the program, visit http://support.microsoft.com, enter 290301 in the Search Support text box, click the Description Of The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, and then scroll to the middle of page. Click the Download The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility Package Now link. When the File Download – Security Warning window appears, click Save. The Save As window now appears. Navigate to the folder in which you want to save the file (feel free to simply save it to your Desktop; that will help you find the file easily) and save it. Next, double-click the file. When the Open File – Security Warning window appears, click Run. The Windows Installer Clean Up Setup window will appear. Click Next, read the License Agreement and then (if you agree with it), click the I Accept The License Agreement radio button. Click Next and then click Next again at the next page. When the wizard completes, click Finish.

Click Start, All Programs, and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The utility will display a list of programs that it can clean. Select WordPerfect Office X3 from the list. If the list also includes WordPerfect Mail, press and hold CTRL and then click it. This action will select both items. Click Remove.

Program Files
Once the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility completes its task, you’ll need to enter your hard drive and remove some additional files. Corel recommends backing up certain folders that might have information you’ll want later (see the Delete The Program Files And Folders section in Corel’s Support article 759222). If you don’t intend to use the suite again, you don’t need to back up the folders.

To back up a folder, simply find it, right-click it, and then click Cut. Next, paste it into a different folder (you could create a CorelBackup folder on your Desktop, for example). Don’t simply copy these folders: you want to remove them from their current locations.

To back up the WordPerfect default template, follow this path: C:\Documents And Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Corel\PerfectExpert\EN\13 and move the folder to a new location.

To back up the WordPerfect Address Book, open the My Documents Folder and then cut the CCWin folder and move it to a new location.

To back up important files for other Corel programs, follow this path C:\Windows\Corel.

Now you’re ready to start deleting folders. Start by deleting the Word Perfect Office X3 folder. Double-click My Computer and then double-click your hard drive (usually C:). Open My Program Files and then select WordPerfect X3 (you may also need to select WordPerfect Mail). Press the DELETE key and then click Yes when the Confirm Folder Delete window appears.

Next, you’ll want to remove two other folders, named 13 and WordPerfect Office X3 (this is separate from the WordPerfect Office X3 folder you just deleted). Follow these filepaths to find the folders and then delete them:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Corel\Shared\Writing Tools\13
C:\Documents And Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Corel\WordPerfect Office X3
WARNING: The following section includes step-by-step information on how to edit the Windows Registry, a large database containing system and program settings that are essential to how the OS (operating system) operates. Follow Registry-editing instructions to the letter and be sure to make a backup of your Registry before you begin (Registry errors can render your computer inoperable if you don't have a backup). This procedure differs depending on the OS you use. For more information on backing up and editing the Registry, see these articles: "Protect Yourself" and "Register Here."

WordPerfect Registry Entries
Now that you’ve deleted the files, you have almost completely wiped WordPerfect Office X3 from your system. But, according to Corel, you’ll still need to remove a few registry entries related to WordPerfect Office. As the warning above notes, this is a risky process.

Click the Start button and then click Run. When the Run window appears, type REGEDIT and then click OK. Double-click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder and then double-click SOFTWARE. Find the Corel folder.

If your computer has other Corel programs, you won’t want to delete the entire Corel folder in the Registry. Instead, double-click the Corel folder and then delete any of these folders that appear: Dad, EquationEdit, PerfectPrint, PerfectScript, PrintEngine, WordPerfect, WordPerfect Suite, WritingTools. Close the Registry Editor and then restart your system.

If your computer does not have any other Corel programs, simply delete the Corel folder, close the Registry Editor, and then restart your computer. You have removed WordPerfect Office X3 from your PC.
